Electric Longboard

Overview

Slate Co. wanted to bring a premium electric longboard to market that balanced speed, range, and portability, targeting both daily commuters and hobby riders. Their vision was a sleek, reliable board that offered powerful acceleration, customizable ride profiles, and seamless integration with a companion mobile app.

Challenge

The project required engineering a lightweight yet durable deck and enclosure that housed high-power electronics while maintaining weather resistance. Key challenges included designing an efficient drivetrain, optimizing thermal management for the ESC, ensuring smooth braking, and achieving wireless connectivity for real-time performance monitoring.

Solution

Develope a dual-motor electric longboard with 2000W of combined power, regenerative braking, and a modular battery system providing up to 30km of range per pack. The deck is constructed from carbon fiber and bamboo for strength and flex. The electronics include a custom ESC running FOC firmware, integrated Bluetooth for app control, and a proprietary BMS with thermal and voltage protection. The mobile app allows users to adjust throttle curves, view live telemetry, and perform firmware updates over the air.
